Vintage Spanish Pillow and Antique Bobbins
PBLC staged a special exhibition at the Dorset Arts and Crafts Association Exhibition from Friday 2 to Tuesday 6 August 2019.
The theme of the display was 'Treasure the Past...Embrace the Future. This was not only about the history of PBLC but encompassed all types of lace both English and European and the tools required to make them. The display showed several styles of lace, both modern and vintage, from English Laces such as Honiton and Bedfordshire, to Continental Laces such as Milanese and Bruge Flower Lace, along with some of the equipment used. As well as lace makers demonstrating bobbin lace there were photos and scrapbooks charting the History of PBLC. There was also a chance for visitors to 'Have A Go'.
Each year members of PBLC submit their work to be judged in the annual competitions. There is a lace category and two trophies are awarded - the Portman Building Society Challenge Cup and Royal Doulton Figurine. The figurine was donated to the competition by PBLC and is of a porcelain lace maker.
Below are a selection of photos of the exhibition together with the Prize Winners of the Portman Building Society Challenge Cup for Lace, Margaret Eaglestone, and the Royal Doulton Figurine for Bobbin Lace, Jenny Lewis.
